The Great American Songbook did not die in 1959.

There is no better evidence of this fact than Julie Budd’s marvelous New CD – THEY WROTE THE SONGS.

Ms. Budd’s voice works wonders with what she calls The New Classics.

The recording includes songs by modern day composers and lyricists, including Charles Smalls, Steve Dorff & MB Derry, Paul Anka, Sammy Cahn, John Lennon & Paul McCartney.

Every track on the album is a delight.

The standouts are: Let me Try again (to my knowledge the first time that this Sinatra classic has been recorded by a female), an eight minute medley of songs by Anthony Newley & Leslie Bricusse that left me breathless… and a perfect recording of Ann Hampton Callaway’s “Perfect.”
